Week 8 update

Revenge is a dish best served on the pitch,

And apparently hot!  Saturday posed a very warm and humid day at the rugby club as Saskatoon came down to the land of the good in the third installment of interlock rugby, in Regina.  The Rogues men looked to avenge last years provincial final defeat, against the Saskatoon Badgers.  With both teams lacking depth on the bench, this game was set to be a battle of fitness, will and... hydration.  The rogues jumped out to a healthy lead at the start of this one, with the score 20-5 after 20 minutes.  In true badger fashion, the boys from Shelbyville battled back to tie the game at 20 by half time.  It was familiar territory for the men in Green as they had lost two very close games earlier this season.  The second half was set to show what kind of team the Rogues could be this season.  We got our answer.  After a defensive stand within their own 5 meter line, the Rogues chose to run on a kickable penalty.  Alex silzer pushing over for the go ahead try was the TSN turning point of this game and swung the momentum for the remainder of the game.  From then on it was all Rogues as they dominated the rest of the second half and showed all watching that they are contenders for the provincial final.

Final Score: Rogues-41 Badgers-27

In women's action, two regina 15's teams faced off against the Wild Oats Women and the Kirin respectively.  Both the Condors and Rage women won their games, with the Rogues women split between the two sides.  Mackenzie Grad was once again a stand out for the women as she ran in a handful of tries and was staunch on defence.  The ladies outclassed the saskatoon teams in both games and showed they are still at the top of the province.

Next up for the Rogues is a Make-up game on Wednesday against the Condors at 7pm.  Come down and show your support before you break for the long weekend!

Until then,
